It will run most old Mac OS software just as well as you'd expect, therefore occasional crashes will occur. Be sure to run Disk First Aid fairly frequently in order to maintain your emulation boot drive. I personally recommend running Mac OS 8.6, my favorite version.įrom my testing, it works as well as the previous version 2.4. NOTE: SheepShaver is limited to running Mac OS 7.5.2 thru 9.0.4. More about SheepShaver can be found here: "For more information see the revised setup manual. "For a new setup, also download the SheepShaver folder. "If you have an existing SheepShaver setup, you can simply replace the application with the new application. "For Intel Mac, MacOSX 10.7 (Lion) through macOS 10.14 (Mojave) Notes about version 2.5 are available here:

You are heartily invited to join the effort! Anyone tried running Sheepshaver in Mojave development releases yet Are we basically SOL or what Note that I have been running 0201 in 10.1x.x development versions and it works great (now), although there was a major bug that I found with Sheepshaver that Apple subsequently fixed 'so you won't have to'. Please note that I am pretty careless of the Windows version since I am not a Windows developer. The following platforms are currently supported: Linux (i386, ppc, x86_64), MacOS X (i386, ppc), Darwin, NetBSD 2.0, FreeBSD 5.3 and Windows for x86. Performance with the current CPU emulator using basic just-in-time (JIT) translation techniques is roughly 1/8-th of native speeds. On other systems, SheepShaver provides the first PowerPC G4 emulator, though without MMU, to enable the execution of Mac OS Classic. If you are using a PowerPC-based system, applications will run at native speeds (i.e., without any emulation involved).

SheepShaver only works up to Mac OS 9.0.4 because it does not emulate the MMU (Memory Management Unit) which was a requirement for Mac OS 9.1 and above. My iMac came with one, but it doesn’t work with SheepShaver because it came with Mac OS 9.1.

There's two issues that I see at the moment:

If you allow it, then terminal will get added to the Automation page in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Automation: SheepShaver freezing up after Mojave 10.14.5 update Post by almeath Tue 8:01 am I am experiencing a strange problem with SheepShaver 2.5 following an update to macOS 10.14.5. What is supposed to happen on the first execution is the Finder opens a dialog box informing you that terminal is requesting permission to send events to the Finder. In terminal try osascript -e 'tell application "Finder"' -e 'set _b to bounds of window of desktop' -e 'end tell'Īnd you may receive: 36:42: execution error: Not authorized to send Apple events to Finder. This is definitely a part of Mojave's new security framework.
